MOTOR GRADER OPERATOR

Position Summary
Under direction of the Road Foreman to whom assigned, is responsible for basic maintenance of all granular (rock) surfaced and dirt roads within an assigned territory. Must perform required duties in a satisfactory manner without continuous supervision.
Essential Functions

- Must be able to lift 75 pounds.
- Must be able to climb, stoop, squat, kneel, walk, reach, bend, and stand.
- Must be able to traverse roadside foreslopes, ditches and backslopes.
- Must be able to work 40 feet above the ground.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Must have a Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
Duties
- Shapes assigned roads to proper crown and grade to provide adequate drainage.
- Blades road surface to provide a safe driving surface.
- Removes snow as required from roads and bridges.
- Cuts trees and brush within ROW.
- Mows roadside shoulders.
- Reports all damaged signs or other signing problems to foreman. Make emergency repairs if possible.
- Reports need for rock or ditch cleaning to foreman.
- Performs basic maintenance and repair to bridges in territory – resets loose spikes/nails, removes rock from trusses and decks.
- Performs operator level maintenance to assigned equipment and Shed/Shop.
- Maintains required time and equipment records.
- Reports to the foreman, any safety hazards or maintenance work needed to roads, bridges or equipment that falls beyond the operator’s level of capability.
- Works under direction of a lead worker (Bridge, Shop, Sign Tech., Inspector) when so assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the foreman.

Required Education
Graduation from high school. Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (with air brake endorsement).
